This dataset presents official Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) statistics on recorded violence and sexual offences where the victim was under 18 years old. Covering the period from 2007 to 2024, it provides detailed counts by victim age group and offence category, helping researchers and policymakers analyze youth-related crime trends and patterns across Northern Ireland.
Scope & Granularity
Each record represents an aggregated count of offences classified as either violence against the person or sexual offences with a victim under 18. The Age field identifies the age band (for example, “under 2 years” or “17 years”), while the Year field refers to the PSNI financial year. The Value column gives the total number of recorded offences within that category. Data are aggregated and do not include personally identifiable information.

- Users should note that the year variable refers to financial year (e.g. 2023/24), and offences are assigned according to the date recorded rather than the date of occurrence. Financial-year starts in April 1 and end in March 31
- Counts are subject to change if PSNI updates classification guidelines or re-categorises offences following investigations. However, these adjustments are rare and are reflected in the “Last Updated” date shown on this page.
